How Many different species are there?
There are 17 different species of penguins that live all over the world, but only in the southern hemisphere. Not all live in the cold climate of Antarctica, some live on beaches where it is warm. Most are named by where they live, or a distinct physical characteristic.
Although they live in different regions, most penguins eat small fish. There are some species that even eat squid, krill, and crustaceans.

Fun Fact!
When there is no fresh water penguins drink salt water. They are able to do this because of their supraorbital gland that filters excess salt from the blood stream, which is then secreted in a concentrated fluid from the nasal passages.
